Women in business inspiring other women to stick to it

Working with other women in business is inspiring

When I first started my business, I was inspired by other women doing amazing things, such as investment coaching, teaching technical courses, marketing coaching, fitness training, business coaching, providing business services, or any number of things, using their unique skills with a feminine touch. Those same women have continued to inspire me to push through the entrepreneurial roller coaster ride that can rattle those of us who like security and certainty in our lives.

Meet Angela Matthews, an investment coach

Angela and I first met online when she was an online reputation specialist. After doing that for a while, she wasn't quite feeling the vibe anymore, so she segued into investment coaching, which was more her style. The beauty of being an entrepreneur means that you can figure things out as you go. If one pathway isn't working for you, then change directions to develop something else. Now, Angela has a thriving coaching business helping people learn how to buy and sell stocks.

Meet Amanda Hines, a business coach

I met Amanda on Facebook, which is where I meet most female business owners these days. She has a commanding style, a professional feel about her, so she stood out to me with my corporate background. She takes a no-nonsense approach to help others develop their businesses to thrive. Amanda sees the silver lining or lesson learned from every situation she approaches. That can-do attitude is what inspires others to do the same.

Meet Akilah Thompkins-Robinson, an SEO expert

Our brains connected almost instantly. At least that's how I felt. Akilah was running a business coaching membership for online boutiques to help them create an online presence to sell their products. Part of that includes understanding SEO, or search engine optimization, which is how a business gets found on Google and other search engines. In the last couple of years, Akilah has added a separate membership to her business to teach SEO skills, which has allowed her to expand her client base into more than just online boutiques. This adds to her longevity for years to come.

Women are creating their own support systems

Each of the ladies featured in this post has shown perseverance and drive to thrive in a world where men still dominate the boardrooms of corporations that tend to leave women out unless they sacrifice their personal lives. Instead of conforming to the needs of executives, we are creating our own successes. Appreciation and inspiration are coming from our clients and our peers, and that is worth more than any corporate title.

HUMBLE PIE

What you don't know about Jim Crow

by Sally Hendrick

Two little girls in rural West Tennessee are best friends but only in secret. Separated by a cotton field, their lives couldn't be any more different. Sudie's and Mabie's friendship, beautiful yet tragic, leaves a mark for generations to come.

Sally takes you on a journey back in time to the early 1900's Jim Crow South, as she imagines what life was like for her grandmother, Sudie, weaving together memories from her own childhood and stories from her family, even the black women who raised her.
