(00:01):
Hey everybody. We're back with Shout Your Cause a News update. My name is Sally Hendrick and we've got drama on the Senate floor. But before I go into that, I want to talk a little bit about April Fool's Day, which is today. I'm not going to tell you a joke, but I am going to let you know that in history, Nixon tried to make a fake comeback. In 1992, NPR pulled an April Fool's prank by announcing that Nixon was running for President again with the slogan, I didn't do anything wrong and I won't do it again. A lot of people thought that it was real. A lot of listeners before they realized that it was a joke. But today we've got Donald Trump trying to say that he's going to run for a third term. Of course, at that point in time, he'll be 82 years old.
(00:57):
We don't know if he will even be viable for anything like that, but it's an eerie concept. One thing that I want to say is look on the bright side. If Trump can run for a third term, so can Barack Obama. And with that, I'm going give you today's updated news. So the drama on the Senate floor that I was talking about is Senator Corey Booker's shocking filibuster. It was a bold and unexpected move, but he has been holding the Senate hostage for over 12 hours, blocking Trump back nominees and a one-man filibuster with no end in sight. He vows to remain on the Senate floor for as long as possible, preventing the chamber from conducting any normal business deported by mistake. Right now, the Trump administration has admitted to wrongfully deporting Ilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father, who was legally protected from removal. Despite a 2019 ruling by an immigration judge granting him withholding of removal, the administration sent him to the prison in El Salvador, all due to what they're calling an administrative error.
(02:20):
Now adding insult to injury, the officials claim they cannot bring him back to the US leaving him stranded in peril. Who's going to be held accountable for this? This is ridiculous. He was completely just thrown away. Election Day alert, Wisconsin voters are making a critical decision today. Also in Florida. Democrats are hoping for a political earthquake to flip two Trump held congressional districts in high stakes special elections. The two Florida elections are Josh Wheel and Gay Valmont, and those are the Democratic candidates are trying to upset those two positions. And the Wisconsin vote is for a Supreme Court justice, which is something that Elon Musk is trying to sway because he has cases against him in that state. Why that's not illegal? I do not understand more secret signal chats in the Trump White House. Mike Waltz has been running private encrypted chats on signal with cabinet members about Russia, Ukraine, peace talks, military operation spending and so forth.
(03:36):
This should be something that is dangerous because I've heard that signal can be infiltrated by Chinese and Iranian spies and Russian spies. More firings by Trump are being challenged in the courts. A federal judge in Virginia has blocked the Trump administration from firing dozens of intelligence officers who had been temporarily reassigned to diversity initiatives.
